Don't Think, Dear: On Loving and Leaving Ballet by Alice Robb

I picked up this part memoir, part historical account on ballet because the cover with the pointe shoes caught my eye as I was scrolling through Libby looking for my next read. I took dance for 13 years with ballet being my favorite class to take. I found myself relating to so much of what Robb wrote - the perfectionism, the joys AND pains of being a dancer, the regrets of leaving it behind, and reminiscing on my time as a dancer. It was very interesting to read about her experience as a dancer because it was SO different from mine. I do wish there was more about Robb’s experience as a dancer, but this was still a very solid read. Definitely recommend to anyone who has an interest in ballet or is a former/current dancer.

Good Material by Dolly Alderton

Did not finish book. Stopped at 44%.
No one is more upset about this than I am. I absolutely LOVED “Ghosts” so I was super excited to read another Dolly Alderton book; however, I could not bring myself to finish this. What I did read was so boring and had an insufferable main character to the point where I was dreading picking it up.

This was GOOD!! I am so glad this one lived up to the early hype I was seeing! I was hooked from the beginning and was thinking about this book when I wasn’t reading it. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, I was blindsided with another twist that had me questioning everything. This one had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing waiting for what was going to happen next. If you pick this one up, GO IN BLIND. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend this one!

✨ con artist thriller
✨ morally gray characters
✨ complex thriller with tons of layers and twists
✨ flashbacks mixed in with the present - I LOVED these and thought it added so much to the story
✨ strong, intelligent, resourceful, and witty main character
✨ perfect set-up for a potential series at the end and I would love to see that happen! (I almost never say this about thrillers)

This book doesn’t need anymore glowing reviews, but it’s getting one from me. This was my second Kristin Hannah book and it definitely won’t be my last. I could have easily flown through this book, but I wanted to take my time with it so I read it slowly. I was crying through the last few pages and each paragraph made me cry even more than the last. A beautifully written heartbreaking story of war and the aftermath of war. This is one that I will not forget anytime soon.

✨ spans over a 20-year journey with the main character through many challenges and struggles
✨ fictional characters that feel real
✨ covers topics outside of war including friendships, romantic relationships, and finding oneself
✨ perfect length - not too long, not too short!
✨ an author’s note that explains the making of this book and what inspired it
✨ EMOTIONAL

This was my third Abby Jimenez book and it was the EASIEST five stars I’ve ever given a book. I laughed, I cried (4 times to be exact). I’m already planning my reread of this when it’s released in April and I can get my hands on a physical copy to annotate. You can tell how much work went into researching and working with professionals to make sure the details were accurate. My favorite thing about Jimenez’s books that I’ve read is how they go so much deeper than surface level. Her characters are not perfect, but that makes me love them even more and makes them more relatable because they feel like real people. This was incredible. I will read anything Jimenez puts out.

✨ book boyfriend that will make you raise your standards
✨ epitome of “if he wanted to, he would”
✨ easter eggs from the author’s other books!! (my jaw DROPPED when I made the connection)
✨ they both fall hard
✨ mental health representation done so well
✨ dual POV
