This book was full of witty banter, scorching chemistry, and the deal of a lifetime: home repair projects for fake dates.

Friends-to-rivals-to-fake-dating is such a fun trope and it was well done here. There were a few times the pacing of the story felt rushed but overall it was a very enjoyable watching their history play out, as well as them reconnecting and work together for their present, and their future.

This book handled things like mental health and grief so well. Watching Fable going through her grandfather’s things and having his house practically falling down around her, and then seeing the house improve as her relationship with Theo deepen. Then watching Theo feel more connected with the town and becoming more grounded in who he is as he spent more time with Fable. The more projects and fake dates they complete the less they can let each other go.

This was my first Jillian Meadows book, but now I’m very interested in reading the first from this interconnected standalone series.

I read this as an audiobook and the narrators did a great job. The pacing, the tone, the inflection were all executed very well. Their voices really hooked me on this one.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC
