..."nah I'm not going to cry, I almost know the myth by heart, nothing new out there"...
L I E S.
MY HEART IS NO MORE.
HE'S HALF OF HIS SOUL AS THE POET SAYS.
I'll need time to recover from this, but let me tell you that it definitely deserves the hype. ESPECIALLY if you're a mythology stan, which I hope anyone reading it is, because this book is like 20% romance and 80% blood, tears, strategy&drama, organs ripped out of trojans' chests and W A R. lemme tell you that I looked like a psycho enjoying it like a fine meal.
honestly I didn't think I would have fallen in love with tsoa, but the second half of the book made my soul ascend, I was so focused that I didn't even heard that there's was a baby screaming like an evil demon in the plane for the whole flight.
anyway, now that I have read both Circe and Achilles retellings by mam' Miller, I guess I'll just wait for Persephone's one and die afterwards.

First of all, I want you to know that it hurts me. It hurts me to give two stars to my favourite author, but I can't pretend I liked it when I was bored during the whole thing.
I'm sorry Queen Schwab, I failed you, but this one wasn't for me.
I think part of the issue was the flatness of the characters, and I blame it on the fact that it's more suited for a younger audience than usual. Because of this, I really missed her unique way to translate emotions and reality, which Gallant did not develop thought it's pages. It could have. But it didn't. Moreover, it's a quiet book: not a lot of dialogue and a LOT of exposition, which didn't help to make the few characters written likable.
I really liked the fact that the main character was deaf, it's quite rare to read, and it could have been a really great story, but the plot didn't serve my expectations.
Sure thing, Schwab got it for all tastes, and that's what I love about her books.

I almost asked myself "where's the incest?" since everything was already in this book. You know what, next time i'll just shut up
