Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes

This was a pretty intense book dealing with obsession, stalking and domestic violence. I really liked how it was told from two different view points, one during the abuse and one years later to show the affects that the ordeal has had on the main character. Definitely an author that I will keep my eye on.

A lot more focused on morals and politics instead of the action I was expecting, but overall a great read with some interesting set ups. I have high hopes for the sequel.

This was a bit of a frustrating book for me. The concept was very interesting and had a lot going for it, but I didn't like how the author purposely withheld information until it was useful. I practically spent the entire book thinking 'for effing's sake, just read your mother's book, you KNOW it has all the answers!'. I also felt like the big mystery of Prentisstown was supposed to be this huge shocking twist, but, for me at least, it was all rather predictable. It's also annoying that I still don't know why the Mayor is so focused on capturing the main character, maybe I've missed something somewhere?

Also, Manchee dying left a bit of a void for me...the journey just wasn't as enjoyable after that part, and while I will read the sequel, I probably wouldn't have if this one hadn't ended on that weird cliffhanger!

Just as enjoyable as the first entry in the series, nice easy read, even read it in one sitting.

Interesting concept, but weak characters. An easy enough read though, so I may still pick up the sequel one day.

This was a good, fast and easy read, surprising given it's 700 page count, but I also felt like it could have been a bit...more.

The story here was interesting, and actually a lot more supernatural than I was expecting. It just fell, at times, into predictability. It was never a boring read though, and I can definitely recommend it to people who enjoy horror books. I've heard good things about Hill's other book, 'Horns', so I'm excited to read that one, after a promising introduction to the author through this book.
