This is one of the best books in the series - astoundingly engaging and unbearably full of Karl Ove doing just the most classic Karl Ove bullshit. Don’t miss it (or do!)

Read this after seeing Ghibli’s movie and I really feel that this book amplifies the movie in a powerful way - I also like some of the decisions the movie made more than the book. They complement each other well.

The Penguin Classics translation is terrible. I’ll be ordering other editions of his writings with better translators.

One of the greatest books of all time. I feel privileged to have read it. Will be hyping this one up for all of eternity. Read, read, READ IT!

Couldn’t help but look at many of the images and details of the Holocaust presented here and think about the current genocide of the Palestinians. It’s too much to try to read this right now while history is repeating itself. I am seeing these images happen in real time. It’s disgraceful.

Got this from the library specifically to read Chi Zijian’s story. It was entertaining and ended like all short stories end - abruptly. Then I read the story by Xu Zechen because the start hooked me and damn that story is very sad and merciless.
