Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Vol. 4 by Haro Aso
2.0
I think I'm burnt out on the series already, and I've only read 4 volumes. Akira can be over-the-top with his one track mind and the author tries to frame it in a comical light every time.
We got a lot of new characters in this one, too, one of them being a permanent addition to the group. Who just so happens to be an oversexualized, stereotypical German college student obsessed with Japan to the point where she knows everything about everything they're seeing. The author even wrote in her accent in her speech bubbles to make sure that we know she's German, but didn't do the accent correctly or even consistently so that was annoying.
This entire volume annoyed me, actually. I don't think I'm going to continue this series, not just because of this single annoying volume, but because I'm just not feeling it anymore. Although this one left off with a cliffhanger so it did seem as if it's going to ramp up fast in the following volumes.

It might just be because I'm PMSing and a crybaby, but the ending had me sobbing. This was so cute. I mean, you could definitely tell it's a YA with the characters really only having a single interest throughout the entire book before their "growth," but it didn't diminish my enjoyment. I got exactly what I wanted out of this, which was a cutesy, fun D&D rom-com.

Boooooring. And he still managed to sexualize every female character AND write a pointless sex scene into a 165 short story. No surprise to anyone there.

We learned a lot of background for Shizuka in this one, and I really enjoyed seeing the little friend group bond while in Kusogi's camp. I also really appreciated the step in trauma healing.

I learned something about sharks in this one. I wasn't expecting that.

This was fun to read. There was excessive fanservice but I'm not surprised because it's very common in manga, especially manga created by men, and I'm used to it by now. I knew when I saw this in the store that it would be funny, and it definitely was.

This was so cute. The art style was what had caught my attention originally, but the story itself was just as fulfilling to read.

This is a very average 2.5. There was way too much not explained for there to be a healthy amount of curiosity.
Quinn and Lexa are artifical and they're treated as if they're robots but they have human lungs, bones, brains and organs, plus they still need to eat so I'm confused exactly what makes them "artificial." It reads as if they're just genetically modified, lab-born children but they're talked about as if they're robots. Even the slurs and insults are robot-based.
There was also a switch in POV in the epilogue to first person instead of the third person the rest of the book was written in and it was odd and an unnatural switch.
This is a prequel short story, but it didn't leave me interested in the main series at all.

Interesting. This was probably the best of the short stories to get me actually interested in reading the series, but there's more curiosity than anything else because there's no background information in this.

Heartstopper is such a cute series. I can't wait to read the next one.
