Absolute perfection!
Sygne Pike blends fact into fiction so well, I truly felt as though I was reading about real people. Her knowledge of this time period shines through, the six years of research before even starting the book truly paid off! Book one follows Langoreth, twin to Lailoken, from child to adult.
This is hands down my new favorite Arthurian fiction. Please read the authors note at the end!

“…you were taught that pain is penance.” “But suffering isn’t atonement…”

This is definitely a world I would have loved to dive into a little more but it being a novella (with a book two expected in September!!) I’ll forgive Veronica Roth for making this short and sweet!
This is a deep dive into the dark side of Slavik folklore with some amazing themes (what it means to carry a family legacy, living as an immigrant, what constitutes a monster, and forgiveness.) I’m very excited for book two!

Emily Wilde telling off Professor Rose will live forever rent free in my mind!
There were more than a few time I squealed out loud from the interactions between Emily and Wendell. So much fun, another great serotonin boost.
