Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto

One friend told me that this is based off Soto’s fanfic about Kylo Ren and Jedi Rey and honestly that’s all I needed to know this was the book for me!
I ADORED this book! My favorite contemporary romance to date. It was a quick read with lots of angst, pining, heated moments, and competition.

Gwen has lost both her parents at a young age and stumbles into a music store where the owner takes pity on her and teaches her the violin. Xander is the front man of a rock and roll band where he plays the electric cello. He is a musical prodigy born into an influential musical family.
How much more Reylo can you get?!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Forever Publishing for this e-ARC. I will be buying the physical copy the moment it becomes available!!

It took me a little while just to sort through all the names! Don’t worry, John Gwynne will cut the amount of people down

I absolutely love the characters and writing in Michael J. Sullivans work.
I wasn’t sure going into this book if I would enjoy it, the escapades Royce and Hadrian go through seemed pretty goofy, but I quickly fell in love with the banter.
The slow unraveling of sinister plots was so much fun. All the political intrigue definitely grabbed me!
Nothing too new or different fantasy wise but I still loved it. These books are like coming home!

There was a lot that I lived about this book but it was missing that special something.
I loved the atmospheric writing, the setting of a mystical island on the PNW, the sprinkling of magic and mystery.
The story itself was pretty predictable and the ending fell a little flat for me. But! That could mean a cozy read for most people.

No notes. Tense, gripping, mysterious, but somehow still hilarious! Every character acts and reacts in completely different ways but exactly fitting who they are. Loved it!
Januaries: Stories of Love, Magic & Betrayal by Olivie Blake

It is so hard reviewing one of Olivie Blake’s works because you can see the heart and soul she pours into each and every one!
A “mix tape” for her readers, Januaries is a collection of short stories about love and relationships broken into seasons.
While there were a few stories I did not enjoy/understand, the majority of these were poignant, different, and beautiful. Each character was so distinct and no two ‘meet cute’ were the same. I highly recommend this for readers who have read and enjoyed any of Blake’s works!

This book found me at such a perfect time!
While I did not love Blood Over Bright Haven as much as Sword of Kaigen I feel it’s a disservice to compare the two.
Tiran is built on a foundation of consumption at the expense of the weaker sex and lower race. Our main character Sciona is sheltered, self-centered, egotistical, and craves power above all else, but in a world that silences driven and outspoken women it makes sense that she would need to be.
Following such a flawed main character the reader will find themselves appalled at her behavior and stubborn ways. But in Sciona the reader is meant to see themselves and the potential for growth and change.
The brief chapters we have with Thomil, known as a “Kwen” which literally means any person not of Tiran, were my favorites. I appreciated his different way of thinking and questioning all of Sciona’s beliefs.
Through Sciona’s questioning and discoveries M. L. Wang explores how the growth of self cannot happen without introspection.
