I appreciated the historical research that was put into this, however I would have loved to see lesser known innovations (or maybe I’ve read too much on the transcontinental railroad?). Absolute favorite chapter was about the Atlantic cable and the fact that it’s how we literally have wifi today!

Reading it as context and adding a backdrop to Jane Erye made me appreciate this novella. However I found myself having to reread multiple parts to fully wrap my head around what was happening in the story.
