do you ever read a book and while you’re reading it you’re like “this is a good book” but then you finish it and you’re like “it was actually pretty boring”? that was this book for me

IM FREE!!!!!!!!!!! this book was so hard to get through but i’m free😭

so many things i didn’t like
  • the plot was that everyone was cheating on everyone, basically
  • it’s absolutely not a thriller. there wasn’t even a proper storyline
  • the blurb promises “[until] a body is discovered, facedown, off the side of the boardwalk” but said body dies on page 211 (out of 257). the death itself was pretty underwhelming and all it did was start the end of the book.
i liked the reveal that robert killed her in the epilogue but by that point i was so done with the book i couldn’t care less. give me the plot twist earlier!
  • the. children. just send them away to a camp???? or don’t even talk about them, none of them added anything
  • if you took a shot every time a new character was introduced/named, you would die of alcohol poisoning. like this woman was full on recycling names… jen, jenny, jeanette, jane, janet, there were even two steves???

sigh

i loved the fast pace and all the characters!

everything was so good up until the reveal itself (the way it was done)
i think i would’ve much rathered have ben and lucy figure it out through clues honestly. lucy regaining all her memories just made the whole podcast interrogation thing seem pointless? like some of the people interviewed were irrelevant and offered irrelevant information since, again, the reveal was caused by lucy simply remembering everything

i haven’t felt this stressed out over a book since i read five survive by holly jackson so it was a great thriller!

there wasn’t so much of a mystery like i thought there’d be? so that was a bit of a letdown but maybe that’s my own fault for misreading the description or something. the reality tv aspect also felt kind of minor bc the description made it seem more important?

i hate to say this but my guesses at the plot twist were way more interesting than what actually happens. when everything was revealed it was just like “oh. okay” and then the book ended
