What is the point of this book? I had hope for it because I liked the magic and history of the Arks but the plot and characters seem absolutely pointless.

Initially I was intrigued by the mysterious/surreal nature elements and the perspective of a very unemotional biologist narrator but to me the book never developed anything of interest. The whole book is a constant barrage of the narrator's thoughts rather than a blend of elements that immerses the reader in the story. The sci-fi elements were hypothetically interesting but also didn't seem to go anywhere or hook me in any way.
