A Fate Worse Than Death by Nisha Patel

As a person who often gets frustrated about the things I can and can’t do because of mental illness, this book provided me reassurance how possible it is to have a beautiful life and a profound story to tell because of it. These poems scrutinize and laugh at the inconveniences that the body and the healthcare system can impose on a life. Carefully curated Medical documents, simple visual choices, and a snarky poetic voice made this a bold statement of a read. My personal favourite poems were probably the first one and the last one.

I saw parts of myself in the young adults whose stories were told in this book. It wasn’t as helpful as I though it would be, but maybe that’s just because of the emotional desperation I am in at this point in my life. Nonetheless, I do feel more hopeful that I can get myself out of this rut.

The characters are realistically awkward and have interesting conversations. This was a sweet romance! The smut was sufficiently quirky and not over the top.

This is my favourite Cassie Mint book that I’ve read so far. I love how awkward both mcs were as they stalked each other. The hero knew that he was a bit unhinged in his obsession and would respect the heroine even if she isn’t into it. However, she is. I would totally appreciate having a softcore st@lker like Tudor.

This book is genius in the way it incorporated  a Benji’s book into this book. I could tell great thought was put into the character’s ambitions and motivations. The angst is never excessive because even the main characters know that miscommunication in romance can often be annoying. I much appreciate getting a look into Benji’s creative process as well as his experience with psychosis. As someone who has experienced psychosis, I think the “negative symptoms” were kind of looked over, but I still think the representation was done respectfully.

This read really vividly. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, as a person who doesn’t read many books in verse.

The banter between these two friends is stellar right off the bat. Highly recommend for a quick read.
