I mean cool idea but the book was just repetition of the same tired story and lines so that its impact disappeared and the characters started to sound the same which I Dislike because there is more than one type of immigrant story. And also the romantic ideas abt art and colonialism and power are so broadly referenced and never explained at all with any nuance that this reads like a middle school book

the concept of him writing fictional stories about himself surprised me especially since this book is considered one of the primary novels abt the Vietnam war. interesting insights on life but otherwise the book just made me kinda uncomfortable
The Secret History by Donna Tartt

Writing style hits, as always, but this book just left me kinda sick and in suspense the whole time. Characters and plot were ridiculous and pathetic with only a few shining moments that make me care about or connect with them, and Tartt relies heavily on the main character’s unreliability and general disassociation with reality to justify reality. The end was kinda anticlimactic and weird
