The One by John Marrs
4.0
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 4 stars for The One. If you like medium paced mysterious romance thrillers then you’ll enjoy this book.
If you had the opportunity to know your DNA life long match, would you act on it? This book follows the POV of multiple participants in the DNA match program. Each couple has different stories and backgrounds matched with someone who seems like may be complete opposite of what they would want in a partner. As the story unfolds there’s a sinister story behind it all.
I did enjoy this book and I really loved the creative aspect of it. I’m happy that each character was different and each couple had a different aspect. I loved the sinister plot twist at the end. I find multi POV books somewhat hard to keep up with. Each POV ends on a cliffhanger then you listen to a few other POVs. The story was executed nicely and is an impressive concept. I’m giving it 4 stars just because though it was an interesting read it really was just good.

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 4 stars for Pretty Girls.
If you like thriller books with plenty of trigger warnings with a corrupt government then you’ll probably like this book. It’s hard to give an overview of this book without giving spoilers….but let’s try.
After Clair’s sister goes missing her family deals with the tragedy in different ways which ends up tearing the family apart. Years go by and another death in the family leads to absolutely terrifying truths that bring Claire and her remaining sister and mother back together again.
The beginning of this book was a little confusing to me, I’m not sure if it’s just because it was audio or what but seemed to be jumping around. After about halfway through you realize why the jumping around was kind of necessary. This is definitely worth the read if you like graphic disturbing thrillers. I gasped several times and near the end you kept being hit with yet another terrifying truth. I’d recommend this book.

Does It Hurt? by H.D. Carlton

AUDIOBOOK : 2 Stars: you will like this book if you love:
-enemies to lovers
-a**hole male MC
-female MC desperately needs male MC
-a little story line with your smut
I am a dark romance girly, and this is not dark romance, this is more like an erotic romance. I felt like I was being pulled in multiple different directions and not in a pleasurable way. The plot/ending was a huge let down. Each “friendly encounter” of the MC was exactly the same, over and over again. I wish I remembered who I seen recommend this on booktok because I would probably unfollow them

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: WOW, now THIS is how you write a novel that is captivating. I admire how the author brings awareness to so many issues, LGBT, Racism, and a corrupt justice system in this book. The character development was amazing, there is a developed character for every person to connect with. Definitely brings out raw emotions. This story is a quest for vengeance as two fathers seek out for the blood of the men who murdered their sons. I can’t find one thing wrong in this novel even the audio narration was pure perfection
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

This book is definitely WAY over hyped. I’m really disappointed. To have such an amazing first 3 books then to let the last just plummet into a grave. I had to read 500 pages of pretty much the two same alternating scenes to finally get to 200 pages of a decent book. It felt like there were no more intriguing ideas for the series so we were just spammed with training and s**, which I guess is enough for some people. The last 200 pages or so were great, but IMO it doesn’t make up for boring me half to death. I was also never a huge fan of Nesta and she took center stage here.

Thank you NetGalley for the audiobook version of this book.
I’m not the one that determines Genre of books, however, I don’t think id go with “cozy fantasy” if I were. This story outlines higher stakes than what are typically in cozy fantasies. I love fantasy, and romantasy and when I’m in the mood cozy reads but I feel like this book can’t decide.
I couldn’t really connect much with the two main characters leaving me not really caring. I think some will love this book but it just wasn’t it for me.
