The writing style just threw me off after a while, and I found I didn't care about the characters, which made me lose interest in what was happening to them. Brilliant premise, though, and I know it has found its audience!

The writing wasn't for me, I found it very hard to get on with. There was also a tendency on the author's part to not really deal with certain things with sensitivity - particularly to do with women or lgbtq+ items. This alienated me and made the book even harder to read.
Ultimately, I would prefer to read about Iraq's history from a different book or set of books.
