Leaves you thinking and feeling ... a perfect combination.

This book wasn't what I expected. It read as being quite old-fashioned and set in a decade that hasn't been around in awhile. The story also was too safe - it was lacking some much-needed depth and grit. As I finished the book, I was thinking, "Really? This is all?!" It was nicely done for what it is (see above), but didn't consist of what, I believe, makes a good story.

First, let it be said that this novel definitely has a European flair to it, as this is where it is set.
As for for the storyline and writing, it really hits its mark at times, but falters at others. The novel is split into different parts, profiling the characters lives throughout the years. (I didn't really care so much for the late twenties part - it just didn't connect with me for various reasons.) It seems that there is a lot of nostalgia in the book, but not enough sentiment.
The premise is engaging (looking in on the characters on the same day every year), but I felt the author could have done more with it.

This novel was enjoyable, fast-paced, and heart-tugging. It was interesting to watch all of the pieces of the story fall into place - every thing that drove me crazy as a reader throughout the story made sense in the end.
However, I really disliked the main character in the story. She was a major ***** who couldn't get out of her own way.

I think I liked this book mainly because it was written by Jodi Picoult, whose writing I find enjoyable.
*SMALL SPOILERS BELOW!*
The relationship between Zoe and Vanessa really didn't connect with me - I never found it to be believable. Nor did Max's relationship with God.

Too slowly paced. Needed some intensity. Not enough interesting plot points.
