the prose is ethereal... however there is an error on page 105 (paperback). in the spring fever chapter during the dinner party scene, pamela is incorrectly referred to as paula by the narrator.

i finished this in just a few hours and from the first page to the last i'm sure i experienced the entire range of human emotion. you quickly forget that this is a memoir as machado's prose is infused with dreamy qualities and horrors that read more like magical realism. not only does the story come full circle in a really beautiful way, but many other, smaller circles are fufilled too. truly loved this book.
