TBH I usually don't like Sager but I think this is one of his best works. The twists didn't seem forced for the sake of shock value this time, and there was some definite emotional depth to this one.

In a second reading years later, I feel about the same as I did the first time: the World’s Fair section is much better executed than the H. H. Holmes section, which should either have been eliminated entirely or connected to the first more fully to justify the combination of narratives.
