Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe but Jo Watson Hackl was an amazing read about a girl named Cricket who has been abandoned on more than one occasion. She has grown up with a mother who has mental health issues, her father who’s job requires him to travel for extended periods of time for work, a grandmother who has recently passed away, and an aunt who has her own problems. Cricket’s father taught her how to survive in the outdoors and introduced her to an abandoned town where they explore. When Cricket’s aunt “accidentally” leaves Cricket behind in the grocery store Cricket takes the opportunity to run away to this town. While she is there she becomes more self-aware and she comes to understand her situation better. She uncovers a mystery and solves it. She makes new friends. Overall, the time she spends in the abandoned town helps her to grow into a young woman. And while the story is realistic enough that it doesn’t wrap everything up in a nice pretty package at the end you can see that Cricket will be ok. She is a strong, young woman. This story was intriguing and well written, including the descriptions of the scenery. I couldn’t put it down.

Poco and Moco are Twins by Jun Ichihara is a super fun super cute picture book. The twin lambs are best friends They play together and get in trouble together and they both like donuts. This book explores their similarities and differences. The illustrations are very colorful and in some cases very detailed. Children will enjoy discovering all the different objects and characters on the pages. They will love the cut outs and fold outs. A great picture book for a young child.

This book was hilarious and fun and a perfect cozy murder mystery for any Pride and Prejudice fan. I am soooo glad it is a series and I can read more about Elizabeth, her aunt, and Peter.

If you are a fan of the old west and of Sherlock then this is your book. Such a wonderful peak into history and at the same time a cowboy western, and murder mystery all rolled into one. Great quick read!!

The dialogue always makes me laugh out loud. Another great thriller!

I am a Tyrannosaurus by Tatsuya Miyanishi is a wonderfully illustrated story about a Pteranodon and a Tyrannosaurus. The baby Pteranodon is raised by his mom and dad and taught to have strength and to take care of others. When finally the baby Pteranodon is all grownup his parents leave him to care for himself. This is also the day the Tyrannosaurus shows up. But as the Tyrannosaurus is attempting to eat the Pteranodon he falls. The Pteranodon, having been raised so well by his parents, has strength and cares for the injured Tyrannosaurus. The ending of the book was a little sad and made me almost cry as I felt so much sorrow for the Tyrannosaurus just wanting to say thank you. The illustrations are almost mesmerizing for their simplicity and color. I would highly recommend this read for any dinosaur hungry child.

Hilarious murder mystery set in flapper days of New York.
