Juana and Lucas: Big Problemas by Juana Medina is a cute read about a girl, her best amigo and how they handle a big life change. Juana is happy with how her life is, then her mom goes and meets a new guy. Juana has to deal with all the emotions that come along with this shake up to her normal life. Ms. Medina does a great job telling this story and a wonderful job illustrating Juana and Lucas’s interactions and surroundings. I think Ms. Medina did a very nice job of entwining Spanish language and cultural references about Bogotá. It added to the text. I thoroughly enjoyed this early chapter book.

Sprout, Seed, Sprout! by Annika Dunklee and illustrated by Carey Sookocheff is the best book ever to describe exactly how all of us, man, woman, child feel when waiting for an avocado pit to sprout. I absolutely loved this book. I laughed out loud over the impatience felt by the child waiting for roots to show and then the stem. We have all been there, singing to our plants, praising it for growing, shouting words of excitement and encouragement. Also the illustrations are perfect. I love the side-eye the cat gives the other “friends” and of the dad flinging the pit across the room. The slightly muted tones are wonderful. A truer book has never been written.

Another great book in another wonderful cowboy romance. Thank you Ms. Miller your books are awesome.

I love any book about a child at the library. This one is even better, Lola shows so much enthusiasm it reminds me of the joy I had as a child at the library.

No Good Tea Goes Unpunished by Bree Baker is a charming cozy murder mystery. I enjoyed this fun story about Everly Swan, local tea shop owner, solving the murder, helping the plight of honeybees, running her tea shop, and being a good friend. The description of the beach scenery and food items made me want to take a trip to the ocean and find Everly’s cafe; the characters - Everly, her aunts, friends, and citizens of Charm make me want to live there. The story was light and funny and exciting and captivating. As someone who has not read the first book in this series Ms. Baker does a wonderful job filling in new readers on the back story.

Another great Daisy Dalrymple read.
