The Other Side of Perfect by Mariko Turk
5.0
ambitious and confident girl as the mc? check.
lovable, yet realistic love interest? check.
ballet and musical theatre references that are fun whether you’re knowledgeable in the subjects or not? check.
asian american representation? check.
fun and absolutely lovable side characters? check.
this book was so much fun to read and the conflicts weren’t heavy enough to make me want to rip my hair out. mariko took a classic story of an injured athlete learning to live life with their injury and continue to enjoy their passion. as both a ballerina and a musical enjoyer i found this book to be a very entertaining story that also has some very real and important undertones. this book perfectly masters the way of feeling like a light read while not shying away from the tough topics that are brought up. absolutely adored it.

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le

super cute love story. a bit of romeo and juliet meets vietnamese culture. love the main characters and was truly rooting for them the entire time. it was also so educational to read about the lives of vietnamese immigrants and i truly loved hearing about their cuisine. managed to be light hearted and fun while still facing the very real issues of what the “american dream” truly means.
