okay here we go...

the first 2/3 or the book dragged to me which was deviating because I loved the first book, but finishing the book was worth it. I do wish that she made the ending much longer and kept writing. I do feel like the author got tired of the book at some point and rushed the rest. I loved finding out Nirrim's origin that was incredible to me. Honestly, I wish we got three books instead of two I'm sad it's over.

Loved this book so much in the beginning. The story is unique and the characters are beautifully made. Overall it's a very good book and I do recommend it.
I had to take off stars though because I wish the ending was arranged a little differently. I got bored for a bit and switched to a different book before finishing this one. There is also a HUGE lack of diversity that I'm surprised people haven't mentioned. I'm not one to usually be bothered by this too much but I got incredibly tired noticing it every few pages. I believe there might be one poc character
but he dies for the benefit of the main character

I've never read a book like this before. It has such an intriguing mix of high fantasy and elements of dystopian fiction that was captivating to read. I absolutely fell in love with all of the characters (even the horrible ones) because each have so much depth to them
10/10 read and I can't wait to start the next one โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! It's perfect for readers that enjoyed the Throne of Glass series by Sara J. Mass, any lover of high fantasy, and the found family trope (my favorite)! I loved that we got to see actual interactions with the gods/goddesses of this world, and although it is predictable, that should not deter you from reading this book. Elander is ๐Ÿฅต but that's all I'm gonna say about him. The ending has a bit of a plot twist, but as I said it is kind of predictable. I ENJOYED IT NO LESS THOUGH it was still exciting to read!!

Favorite Quote: "The closer I get to the end, she had told Cas once, the more I find myself wanting to go back to the beginning."

This book is constantly very graphic and is very detailed about everything. The main character, Marcos, works in a processing plant for human meat and oversees every aspect of the industry, so when I say it goes into detail I mean it!
Overall a great book and amazing commentary on capitalism, greed, media, and the normalization/desensitization of the horrible truths of the world.

this is hands down my favorite book I've ever read (and I've read A LOT of fantasy/high fantasy novels).
*edit: I put it's complicated for diversity since some of the characters are racially ambiguous and I also know that the 4th book has LGBTQ+ representation ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ we love to see it)*
I will say something though that might help y'all WHEN you read the book "series" that I didn't know myself when I started reading them. Each book is kind of like a stand alone novel all set in the same world and each book has a different main character. Don't let that deter you from reading though this author is amazing!! I did a bit of research since I haven't finished all of the books yet but from what I've seen you'll want to read the books in this order: Graceling (so that the mystery and fun isn't ruined for you and it was published first), then Fire, Bitterblue, and then Winterkeep (so excited for that one I can't wait!) That also happens to be the publication order but I've seen that some people will start with fire or go straight from Graceling to Bitterblue. I don't recommend it ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ I hope y'all enjoy the book!!!
