Took forever to get through this book. I love the folk horror genre more than any genre on earth— wanted to love this so bad, but it’s more that it was fine! Very slow. Very, very slow. Like, I liked what I was reading, but it seemed to drag on forever with nothing happening AT ALL. The last 80 pages really kicked things into gear. 75% of the book was pure atmosphere (which I loved!), 10% was a pretty generic ‘70s detective story, and then the last 15% is kooky, creepy fun! It’s American Wicker Man, you can’t go too wrong with that.

Loved, obviously. Only took 3 sittings to burn through it, but I found myself struggling to want to read it because the Coen’s made such a perfect adaptation that I’ve seen 300 times before reading this that it took a lot of the fun out of it. Still a masterpiece though.

Loved these books as a kid. Thought I’d re-read them all, but got stuck on this one for a while lol Was working/traveling a ton and didn’t have much time to read. Also, the fact that it’s a children’s book comes across way harder now than it did when I was a kid and thought it was super sick. Love that Lewis feller. Got this really cool ‘70s box set of the books and probably won’t read the rest until I read them to my future children someday.
