This book was everything I though it would be and more.

I picked up this poetry book at a local used book store in the classic poetry section.
I bought this without reading much about it beyond seeing that is was a classic book written by a Black women poet and I'm happy I did.

Not every poem resonated with me, in fact, I did not like the poems in part one at all, I think the style was not for me. However the remainder of the book was amazing. I really enjoyed the character growth that is shown throughout the book, reads like a memoir in verse.

10/10 would recommend.

I so badly wanted to love this short story collection because of the importance of the subject matter, but this did not come together for me.

Unfortunately, I found the characters in every story lacking substance and flat, which made me not be able to emotionally connect with them; which in turn made the events happening to or around them come off as non-important and flippant.

While it is possible this was the intention of the author, I think it could have been gone about in a different way.

I love short story collections where I get to  connect with a multitude characters or plots and unfortunately, I did neither in this book.

I really loved this short, cute, graphic-novel!

I think each of the characters has a distinct voice and story and I greatly enjoyed the interaction and friendship displayed throughout.

My one flaw is how the medication situation was treated, I think along with the medication push back that was included in the book there could have still been a resolution & solution for Davene.

Other than that I loved the rest!
I'm a Queens NY girl myself so the graphics in this book felt like home 🖤.

I loved this little short story collection and am happy to now have an author who's work I know I will enjoy.

While there were a couple of stories that weren't my favorite, the amount of stories that I loved far outweighed the few I did not like.

Each story was unique in it's horror and had well fleshed out characters and plots.

I will definitely be picking up part two of this collection, and will be on the lookout for more of this authors work.

This short story collection was perfection.

I loved the glimpses we get into "The Heads of Colored People".

This collection had the strangest cast of characters I've ever read in a book.
Characters that are very real, characters that feel like people I've known, and characters that have flaws like all of us.

I would definitely recommend giving this collection a read.!

This book is very well written with a great fleshed out cast that has very distinct voices.
I really enjoyed the main character as well as all the supporting characters. I enjoyed seeing all the side character interactions in addition to the main plot. I loved everything about this book except for the ending.
I saw no need fo  the second rape at the end, and also the death of Clay, it just seemed completely unnecessary

Basically I feel like ending was traumatic just for the sake of being traumatic with no other reason for it.

I would have given this 5 stars if not for the ending.

In the realm of reading it is very hard to say "I've never read a book like this" but with Walking Practice I can say it with confidence and I loved every minute of it!

The scene setting, the characterization, the stylistic choices in visuals and writing were all spot on.

Good book for beginner witches or occultist. None of the information was new or ground-breaking but still well put together and informative.

As is the problem with a lot of occult-ish books, very Eurocentric world view.

While there are stories I enjoyed I didn't love any of them.

I didn't completely get the message of all of the stories, but I'm going to guess that's because it's translated and it might be a cultural or regional reference I don't get.

I didn't hate it, but definitely not my favorite read either.
