I liked the length of this book! I am glad they took the amount of time they did for the ending. I enjoyed the deep level of nuance explaining all the groups and even Maali himself and how he found himself in the position he was in.

I really enjoyed all the detail used. Very heavy, made me very angry. I appreciated the way the storyline unfolded. Down rating for all the times the dark attractive people were described as chocolate *rolling my eyes*

I found it to be fairly entertaining. Major points off for them using the r-slur, unsure why they thought that was appropriate. The ending felt like she was throwing shit at the wall hoping it would stick 😂

I was really hoping for critical essays to make me reflect on how I live my life but this book wasn't it; I actually wish the author would have been a bit more critical about several things they wrote about before publishing. There was a lot of angst about being biracial and people often identifying with them as white and as a biracial person who is not perceived as white... it was just a bit frustrating to read at times. Appreciated what they had to share about being Coast Salish

This was everything I was expecting from The Poppy War. Brutal epic, that hit home. Spoiler alert RF Kuang does not deliver!
