I feel like I’m the odd one out, but this book did not sit right with me. I could tell before finishing it that the author was writing a story that did not reflect her own lived experience. People don’t always need to write their lived experience, but it felt like a straight white author trying hard to write a queer story with people of color that didn’t actually feel authentic. It felt forced and inauthentic. I also thought the chapter layout and transitions were lazy and overdone.
