I really enjoyed this book. The main characters are strong, and fully developed. The girls are confident and independent. Theres a hint of romance without it being too tacky. However, I docked a star because how many times can one person read the word assassin? "Oh ho ho Im an assassin" "Watch out shes an assassin" "You cant be alone with her, shes an assassin!" On nearly every page. I know that she's trained well, but its not necessary. We get it. The book also dragged on in a few spots. It went from 16 people to 10 then down to 5 without explaining how the other people died. The battle was between the two predictables, and I feel like everyone knew who was causing all the murders, but it took so long for the book to actually admit it to us. Other than those issues, I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Really had to push myself to read this. I finished it exactly the minute it’s rental ended.

Nikolai wasn’t nearly as charming as usual.
Does Nina fancy Hanne? Where did I miss that Karl Brum was her father?
What I’m most excited for is that the Darkling is back. And Zoya/Nikolai romance please.
