So damn interesting to see this very... pure modernist? perspective on cultural discourse and alienation - especially the comparison she makes of Cancer and tuberculosis, it's obviously so far removed from the realities we conceive of both of these illness today, 50 years after Sontag penned this essay. I'm just so obsessed with the way her brain works, and the way she is able to EFFORTLESSLY find historical and cultural parallels, she is so succinct in the manner in which she compares them yet it feels so dense. ugh love sontag love these two essays.
maybe the single most pretentious mf ever, but i couldn't put this shit down
