When I read Gone with the wind in my teens and 20s I thought I was just reading a romantic novel! There goes my happy place :( This book clearly explains American attitudes and how they’ve originated and sustained over the years, drawing parallels between the civil war, Nazi Germany and current political times. I alternated between outrage and dread whilst reading this. Sarah articulates the issues beautifully, includjng the denialism of slavery and the history of the problematic voting system. Ultimately, I keep thinking, I’m glad I’m Australian :/
