This was some of the purpliest prose I have ever encountered. Good heavens, it was exhausting. Add to that so many handfuls of F-bombs and other real world profanity as well as modern phrases like, "said no one ever" generously heaped into the book and it was hard to get lost in the fantasy of it all. Also, hated the main character.
If you couldn't tell by now, I did not enjoy what I read of this book and I'm already grumpy because I just know it's going to end up on "best fantasy" lists for this year.

This was incredibly fun and cute. Predictable, yes. But made me smile so much.

While I loved the premise of the book, the pacing was incredibly slow and I had trouble staying motivated to read it.
Thieves' Gambit by Kayvion Lewis

While a really exciting premise, I felt like the pacing was all over the place in between actual heists/thieving events, I was often bored and anxious to skip forward to the next one. I also had trouble really connecting with any of the characters.
The actual heists and thievery parts were fun and cool and exciting!

I think books with animal main characters aren't my cup of tea... 🤷🏼♀️ I just found this to be okay. But I'm clearly in the minor. Also. How dare you do Beatrix Potter dirty like that. I'm offended on her behalf.

What a unique story idea! It kind of made me think of Inkheart meets Brigadoon. And can we talk about that cover? So cool.
Theo and Leyna were both great characters. I almost wish we'd had some chapters from Leyna's POV. The villains coming out of books idea was really fun and it was interesting to see which villain was coming next. I also had a good time trying to figure out who the bad guy was in the real world.
Also, now I just want a magical library containing every book in the world.
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of her book. All thoughts are my own!
