A masterpiece - one of the most beautiful and impactful stories I have ever read.
I'm so glad that I didn't know anything about this book going into it; I'm not typically a fan of the genre, so it might have steered me away, but I think this story actually benefits greatly from going into it blind.
Mandel imbues each sentence with poetry that is captivating in its simplicity. This engaging story is so well-paced and artfully constructed, full of endearing characters and interspersed with quiet humor, and ultimately culminates in such a profound and thoughtful sense of hope - I felt lost in a dreamy haze for a good while after finishing it.
I can't wait to pick up a hardcover copy and read it again.
