I really wanted to love this and the concept is interesting, but the execution didn't live up to those expectations. The first half of the book feels a bit hollow with writing that should have been descriptive and immersive but feels very surface level. I considered DNF-ing early on. However, the world is beautiful, and I wanted to give it more of a chance.

Unfortunately, the pacing is all over the place. There are some interesting plot turns later in the book but the pacing prevented me from truly being immersed.

Also, the decision to follow one character over another in the end means we follow the less interesting character. We are told about the results of the more interesting character's actions, but we don't follow along, which is unfortunate.

 

I didn't connect with the characters until the later parts of the book, and even then, it wasn't enough to make me care about them that much. The romance didn't click with me. I wasn't a fan of the MMC

with his instant obsession and always overriding the FMC's choices without mutual discussion in the guise of protecting her. Also, what was that very sudden spicy scene that ended almost as soon as it began?

There is a minor character who makes remarks about being fat/gaining weight as a negative.
