Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

» Two rival journalists unknowingly connect through anonymous letters during a time of war. They both start to rely on and trust each other during their struggles in life through the letters all the while competing in person.
» I loved the concept of this book! At first, I got "you've got mail" vibes until I realized that it was much more complex and different than that later on. The rivals-to-lovers trope was written so so well! Their character development tied in so well with their relationship development. The portrayal of Iris and Roman getting to know each other and slowly liking each other was written so well and I loved it! My heart broke towards the end, currently sobbing rn. Everything (even what made my heart break) was *chef's kiss*!
»My favorite quotes:
"People are just people, and they carry their own set of fears, dreams, desires, pains and mistakes."
"I grew something living in a season of death."

»We're back with my favorite gang of misfits and found-family crew! I absolutely loved this duology! Six of Crows gave us the introduction of everyone- Crooked Kingdom gave us more of an insight into the characters and speaking of the characters...
»Kaz: I loved that we got more of an insight into what drives him as a person and more of his past and traumas!
»Inej: I loved that she and Kaz worked so hard to improve their relationship and got better at communication.
»Nina: My poor sweet Nina. I honestly could not stand her when reading but I know that how she was portrayed was intentional because it really shows what addiction does and how it takes over a person and changes their behavior.
»Jesper: I LOVED his storyline, I was really able to understand more of his character. I especially loved that the reason he was a bit unwilling to accept his grisha powers because it ultimately led to his mother's death.
»Wylan: My sweet baby Wylan. We finally got his POV in this book, yesss! I loved his backstory and honestly it just makes him even better knowing that he's gone through all that and still somehow ended up the sweet character he is.
»Matthias: oh my darling Mattias. He was probably my favorite character in this book. His character development top tier and was written so well. His death honestly came out of left field for me. It was so sudden, almost like it was an afterthought.
»Some things I didn't particularly like: There were so many things happening in the book that it felt all mushed together and honestly it took me a while to get into reading it. BUT once I got into it, I absolutely loved it.
»What I loved: the writing was top tier, and I loved the introduction of the characters for the next series!
»My favorite quotes:
◈"I don't hold a grudge. I cradle it. I coddle it. I feed it fine cuts of meat and send it to the best schools. I nurture my grudges..."
◈"Her voice, low and steady, the voice that had once led him back from hell."
◈"I have been made to protect you. Even in death I will find a way."
◈"They were twin souls, soldiers destined to fight for different sides, to find each other and lose each other too quickly."
◈"My mother is Ketterdam. She birthed me in the harbor. And my father is profit. I honor him daily."
◈"He couldn't walk the line between the decency she deserved and the violence this path demanded... He could only be who he truly was- a boy who had no comfort to offer."
◈"When fear arrives, something is about to happen"
