Mawce Hanlin is a genius. This book is so beautifully written that I had a hard time putting it down to get some sleep. They have built an amazing world with an intricate and in depth magic system.
With the representation of autism, and how that translates to someone with magic, the descriptions of the magic system take on a whole new level. The reader gets to know how each and every part works, tastes, and feels every step of the way. I was fully immersed the entire time and eager to learn more, just like their main character, Mael Nguyen.
A wonderful fantasy adventure with moments of romance and sexual tensions. Not only does Mawce highlight autism, but there are many LGBTQ+ characters throughout the entire book, namely their transgender lead.
This book reached all the emotional notes and left my jaw hanging with a cliff hanger epilogue. If you’re looking for an emotionally driven plot, a magical ancient store, inclusion, tragic backstories, and a fiery romance (quite literally)… this is the book for you.
I cannot wait to read book two of the belamour archives and learn more about the worlds of Gnaeth and Aos Si.

Suzanne Collins is SCREAMING AT US. The woman that you are.
Not a singular happy thing happened in this entire book. Haymitch Abernathy I am so sorry.
This may be her best hunger games work yet.
