"I'm starting to wonder if this is what being in love is. Being okay with ripping yourself to shreds so that the other person can stay whole."
I probably will hear a resounding "I told you so" from those of you that have read The Love Hypothesis. But, hear me out; whenever I see a book hyped all over Instagram, I start to worry that it won't live up to my expectation. I've been burned before when it comes to this particular genre. Soโฆ I kept pushing off reading TLH, and finally, I said, what the heck, I'll give it a try.
And dang it, if I didn't LOVE this story. Adam is my new book crush. I looked forward to every interaction that he and Olive had. I wish there had been chapters from his perspective.
I thought it was a reasonably vanilla storyline. There was absolutely no steam. There was chemistry between Olive and Adam, but that was it. And then I found myself amid CHAPTERS (not just one), which had me feeling like I needed to fan myself and hide behind my book because my face was probably a million shades of red.
Overall, this was such a perfectly executed Fake Dating trope, and I am counting down the days until Ali Hazelwood releases her next book!

โIt felt good to destroy this place, to rip open its wounds. It felt good to make the dust billow. If I could have drawn a deep breath, I would have screamed into the silence.โ
Wellโฆ where in the world do I begin with this book?
I started reading it before bed and then promptly realized that I would need to sleep with the light on if I did. I feel like I had goosebumps for the ENTIRE book.
Several mysteries were going on simultaneously, but I never felt overwhelmed or that it was too much. They were all exciting, and I kept thinking that they would connect. Itโs what kept me hooked.
Overall, I was, yet again, blown away by Simone St. James and her ability to put together a story that doesnโt make me feel like I got duped in the end. I loved ALL of the characters, including suspected Lady Killer, Beth. I absolutely canโt wait for more of you to read The Book of Cold Cases so that I can discuss the story with someone.
The house is creepy AF. I say that in all seriousness, every time a Shea ventured to the house, I wanted to hide and not read anymore.
๐ Creepy AF house (no exaggeration)
โ๐ผ Dual perspective, dual timeline
๐ฎ๐ฝโโ๏ธ Good cop, bad cop
๐ต๐ฝโโ๏ธ Several mysteries to solve
๐ป Did I mention the supremely creepy house yet??
I recommend you read The Book of Cold Cases if you enjoyed reading The Sun Down Motel, The Family Upstairs, and The Turn of the Key.
What is the last thriller you read that gave you all the creepy vibes?
