I enjoyed this book so much more than the first one. In the first timeline, we're following Laine whose husband divorced her a year ago and who is trying to move on with her young daughter. After attending a friend's wedding, she, the couple, and her friend's brother-in-law travel to Ireland to look into a manor and castle the family has inherited. Laine and her daughter have a past of hurt and grief to overcome, and her friend's husband and brother-in-law have some family tension to work through. In the second timeline, we follow Issy (aka Lady Isolde Byrne) who wants to join her brother in the Irish fight for independence from England (the Easter Rising of 1916). I have never read a story involving this conflict and was really drawn into everything going on in this particular timeline. The third timeline follows Maeve in the late 1700s who takes in a wounded man, despite the fact that he's part of a group leading an uprising against England and the English in Ireland. All of these stories were very interesting, and every character was fighting his/her own battle, both internally and sometimes externally. Highly recommend if you enjoyed the first book in this series or historical mysteries in general!
