Did not finish book. Stopped at 19%.
I absolutely cannot with this writing. I'm 1/5 of the way through the book and feel no connection at all to any character. I'm not even interested in getting to know them. The description of setting and characters is clumsy and awkward. I feel like there was no editing at all in the writing process. I'm just annoyed.

Maybe my favorite Okorafor yet. Occurs before the events of "Who Fears Death." Very heavy.

Great plot and pacing. Believable multidimensional characters.

It's a YA novel. I remember reading in high school, and it mostly holds up! I am bothered only slightly by the silliness in some of the wording. It's a quick, enjoyable read with a nice side of social/political commentary.

The anecdotes are largely unhelpful, and the descriptions are often extreme (things like, "x type of parents ALWAYS do yz", emphasis mine). But the concepts can be interpreted and operationalized in a way that is helpful.
