Parentheses! So many parentheses- even many double parentheses. Half of every page was parenthetical; that makes it hard to follow the thread. I’m actually still interested in the story, but I can’t stand wading through the parentheses.

This was a re-read, and I loved it every bit as much as I did the first time. Maybe more. Well written and an intriguing story.

I do not aspire and never have aspired to being a writer. I am a long-time fan of Terry Brooks, and loved this book for the glimpses into his creative growth and the lessons he learned along his way. It’s written with humanity, humility and honesty, all with an integrity I greatly admire and appreciate. But if you do aspire to authorship, there’s that, too.
