The Dragon's Promise by Elizabeth Lim

The first book was perfect and with a few tweaks it would have been a perfect standalone.

Takkan and Seryu were one of the main reasons I gave it 3 stars.

This book felt like a different book to the first with the first section with Shiori in the dragon realm feeling like a separate book compared to the rest

The Villain only really made an appearance halfway through and near the end and he just fell flat with no big schemes or unexpected twists compared to the supposed villain in the first.

I also feel like some of the development of Shiori’s brothers in the first book was forgotten if not looked over.

If I had a penny for every time Shiori was falling/flying at the end of a chapter I would been a few pennies richer.

I was glad I read this to conclude the ending of the first.

This book was so slow with not much happening until near the end.

Once you got to the end everything kicked off, I liked how this book had its own villain(s) and conclusion whilst leading to a bigger plot line for the next books.

The book really highlights the consequences of war and the effect it has on those survive.

The concept and themes of the world is intriguing and the world building is amazing.

I felt like this book had multiple villains especially when you find more about the world, with the main one being someone you wouldn’t expect it to be

I need the next one…

The magic system the apocalyptic theme of a city, with the idea that part of the city floods at certain times and can only be accessed by thin walkways on roofs.
The sad and cliffhanger of an ending.

This book will take you on a whirlwind making you think the person behind all of it is one person only to bring in another suspect.

This book is perfect as a standalone, perhaps a few tweaks to the ending and an epilogue will make it all complete.

There was a few moments where we was being told what was happening and certain emotions rather than being showed.

I need the next book now. I can’t just be left with that ending!

This book was really enjoyable and at times had me smiling at Xaden and Violets relationship and also made me almost cry at certain points. It also made me hate Dain and I really hope Vi let’s her rage loose with him.

However the writing at times wasn’t great, there was hardly any worldbuilding or detail about certain places. Considering Vi is meant to be very smart there are moments where she is a lot dumber than all the others and makes you want to close the book for something that obvious.

Whoever said this was enemies to lovers has a different idea of what that is. They are meant to hate each other so you would expect some fighting and perhaps a near death experience, they hated each other on the outside but pretty much wanted to other one from the start.

This book is perfect for those starting out their fantasy’s journey or those that want an easy read with some fantasy elements.

Hopefully the next one will have more worldbuilding and fantasy elements that can really make us feel intangled with the world.
