The Selection by Kiera Cass

3.0

The premise is a little Hunger Games-esque, but the book manages to be a fun, entertaining story of competition between desperate people looking for an escape out of their social class. One of the things that immediately put me off was the love triangle dynamic, but after reading for a while it became less and less relevant to the story.

Is the book ace friendly?
There are no sex scenes in The Selection. There are brief mentions of sexual assault to a minor character, but anyone who isn't put off by a lighthearted romance will royal themes will appreciate this book.

The three star rating is mostly due to the writing of the main character, America Singer. She can be a little one-dimensional during her introduction and most of this first book, but hopefully as the series progresses there will be more to her than just her caste and reluctance to fall in love.

I would recommend taking this out from a library to see if you like it. 3/5
