why is this better than the first one???

i'm kinda sad that it's over because i want to know what the other cities' awakenings were like, and the idea of personified cities is a concept that is just endlessly interesting. still, it's clear that new york's story was over with this, and it was such a fun read. 10/10

this was so so weird. an engaging story, characters that really work together, a bizarre premise that really begs to be turned into like seven different books- the only reason it's not five stars is because it uses a lot of that sort of contemporary girlboss style of writing (i don't know how to explain it, read the book and you'll get what i mean), which is just not for me. the story and characters are more than compelling enough to make up for it though- i’m going to have to read the sequel sometime soon.

edit: yeah never mind i was way too harsh. i still think this is a little less engaging than the sequel, but that's probably just because the concept/characters have more time to grow on you by then. these books definitely have a "style" but it's a good style in my opinion. if there were half stars it would be 4.5/5
