Well written, but I don’t care about anyone to ever read a biography this long ever again.

This was my first Doctorow book and it did not disappoint. A short, charming, and surprisingly emotional read.

I really enjoyed WWZ when I read it, and although this wasn’t the book I was expecting and has somewhat of a slow start, there’s a decent creature suspense horror payoff in the latter half of the book. I would rate higher but there seemed to be a lot of missed opportunities for character development or community breakdown, but instead reads more like a young adult novel.
adventurous medium-paced

Expanded the stakes from the first book, especially introducing Emhyr and Vilgefortz, but still feels like a set up for later books.

A lot of good material in here. Although Carson’s writing style may not be for everyone, this is a hugely important book for leftists to read and engage with if we’re going to have any hope of building a new world in the shell of the old.
