Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda
4.0
Secret Daughter is a book about culture, the complexities of family and the many expressions of love. Set both in California and India we follow the lives of two families which intertwine as a result of Asha's adoption.
Things I struggled with: The slow build up. I like a book that hits the ground running, but once I finished the book I was able to see how deliberate and intricate the build up was.
Things I loved:
They layers to this story. When I started reading I felt like I was being given unnecessary information. But as the story continued and I watched everything come together beautifully. With the backdrop of culture, family and love we were able to explore themes of feminism, patriarchy, and classism blended seamlessly into a coming of age story

Welcome to New York by Luana Ferraz
3.0
I received an advanced review copy for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Harry and Alana keep everyone at a distance because it makes it easier to hide their secrets. When their worlds collide they become irreversibly intertwined. It's just a matter of time before their past catches up with both of them.
Welcome to New York is a light contemporary romance. While a lot happens in the story the pacing is comfortable. At times however the writing felt a bit disjointed and lacked flow. Finally for a book set in a city as iconic of New York I didn't feel as though I was there. It was not as immersive as I expected.
Overall it was still a fun read. I would recommend it to those who like women's fiction, contemporary romance and family drama.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman
3.0
Nina has always preferred books to people and a strict schedule. When death of her absent father brings a large number of strangers into her life, she unexpectedly has more family than she knows what to do with. To make matters worse, her attractive trivia nemesis, Tom, is very into her. Overwhelmed and under prepared Nina attempts to fit all of these new additions into her very meticulously planned life.
Over all I very much enjoyed this book the characters were quirky and fun.
However I didn't love the writing style. I can't put my finger on it specifically but it made getting lost in the book difficult for me. I also found the ending a little rushed. Everything felt wrapped up too perfectly and quickly. All in all it still made for an pleasant reading experience.
