This is a placeholder for Lindsay Beck’s first novel, Valley of Dawn.

I thought this book was well written. If I had a day where I could’ve read this straight through, I would’ve. The story was gripping and the plot kept moving forward. From the first dozen pages, I wanted to keep reading. My favorite character was Ren. She is sneaky and smart and caring. I like that she’s strong enough to be the main character ,and I hope we get to hear more of her story in future books. My least favorite character is Gavin. He’s overprotective and willing to do evil for what he perceives as the greater good. Lindsay did a great job writing him as a character to hate.

For a first attempt at novel writing, the chapters flow well. Anyone versed in the romantasy genre will read this and feel at home. But of course, you are going to have to wait until this book is actually published.

I can tell Rebecca Yarros spent more time with this one. I’m glad I reread the first two because the names and places were unfamiliar otherwise.

This book lived up to the expectations set by Fourth Wing.

The dialogue was a little corny at times, but it was an excellent story. I can’t wait until the next one comes out.

An incredible short story read.

Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No

This is a very, very dark romance. Trigger warnings beware.
