Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone - J.K Rowling

The first in the seven outstanding Harry Potter books was an excellent read. I couldn't put it down and was always dying to find out what happened next, even watching the film - it was as captivating as a book could be.

The book (for anyone who hasn't already read this phenomenon) is about young Harry Potter, a disadvantaged boy who has been forced to live with his less-than-pleasant Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Cousin Dudley who would be perfectly pleased to see Harry work hard without praise, after his parents supposedly 'die in a car crash'.
The truth about Harry is soon revealed as he is given a letter concerning the large matter that he is a wizard and should be about to start his education at the prestigious witch and wizard school, Hogwarts. Unbeknown to this, Harry is thrilled and prepares to spend the year at wizard school.
During the school year, he meets his two best friends Ron and Hermione, who prove to be major parts of this book and the next six. He learns about Voldemort, the dark wizard who killed his parents, and battles with him in the last few chapters. Harry, of course, comes out victorious, to leave Voldemort to go into hiding, for, well, I won't spoil that for you!

A great read in my opinion, I would recommend it to any person of any age category.
