I wanted to love book 2 and book 3 (this one) in this series SO BADLY but after book 1 I felt like I was trudging up hill in the snow underwater. And I couldn’t justify continuing something that was so much effort to read. Somewhere in the middle of book 2 I stopped caring and I couldn’t get my interest back.

The writing in this book irritated the hell out of me. The style just wasn’t for me.

The tagline literally told me the stakes were low. But the stakes were TOO low. Nothing was happening and I got bored.

I have issues when people use historical figures as main characters. Louis Armstrong is a main character in this book, and the writer delves into their thoughts and assumes intentions etc. I dislike when this is done with real people. Otherwise I was really enjoying the mystery and was intrigued.

Not in the right headspace for this book at the moment. Not the book’s fault.
