Death and the Afterlife by Samuel Scheffler

Its speculative nature is both to its own benefit and detriment. Even if I didn't agree with everything, Scheffler is less firm in his beliefs, so I can imagine the topics without feeling like I needed to agree with everything.  Lecture 3's problem is that I really don't understand what his argument against immortality exactly is. (It is essential to be mortal as humans, for our schema of values are a direct response to our own mortality. Okay, but why are these values better than an immortal group's schema of values?) The beauty of this book is that, while I do not agree with some claims, his creativity and insightful regarding the human condition in this book is enough to find the book valuable.
