I never knew what an interesting man he was, really glad I read this autobiography!
Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff

Well, I have to say I was not the least bit surprised by anything I read in this book. It is pretty unsettling to have all the disturbing news from the first year of Trump's presidency compiled into one source, and I can honestly say that I dread the next three years as well.

His staff can't control him or his outbursts at all, and after attempting to a lot of them just leave. His whole family is a hot mess, and are given places in the White House that they absolutely shouldn't be. Again, we know this, but it's scary to see it all written out instead of over the course of a year in headlines. If even a little of this book is completely factual, we are in for some serious trouble.

This is not something I would normally read. I avoid political books, especially about people like this, because I have better things to concern myself with. However, since Trump was so adamant that the book not be published, I made an excuse for this one.

The writing was not great, there was little to no editing, and the author seems to have this incredible fascination and obsession with Steven Bannon. It is not something I'd ever read again, but I suppose for a one time read it was fine. Overall it just filled me with anxiety of what we can expect moving forward.

I loved this story! Kurt Timmermeister's story of buying a land while completely clueless and growing from there was a neat process to follow. His writing was lovely, and I really enjoyed that he put a lot of his knowledge in the book as well.

"If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time or the tools to write."

Stephen King's part memoir/part textbook on writing was so good! His advice wasn't too technical, and it was nice that he included so many personal stories about how he got started in between the writing advice as well. The quote above was one of the top tidbits that really stuck with me. I would have to agree with him that to write, you must read as well.

I am in awe of this book and of Tara Westover. While this is a story with a lot of sadness and horrifying details, her resilience and strength to overcome such an intense, strange, abusive family is absolutely incredible. I was truly inspired and amazed by her writing and her experience.
This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today by Chrissy Metz

I love Chrissy Metz. From her sweet, humorous personality to her amazing acting skills, I just think she's an incredible person. Her memoir told stories of her abusive childhood, with a stepdad who couldn't handle her weight and chose to hurt her for it, tales of Hollywood both as an agent and an actress, and of struggling with relationships while trying to love yourself.

Her book was charming, funny, and full of fantastic advice for making sure you are loving yourself to the best of your ability. I also loved reading about her time on American Horror Story and This is Us!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys memoirs, loves her as an actress, or just needs some inspiration.
Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture by Roxane Gay

This is a difficult book to review. It is a collection of essays from people who have suffered sexual abuse, and how rape culture is bred and thrives today. These stories were intimate, beautifully raw and honest, and so very important. While they are not easy reads, due to the subject matter, I recommend this to anyone and everyone.
When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris

David Sedaris is a really funny guy, and his narration is wonderful. While I found a decent amount of these stories engaging (especially the last section about quitting smoking), the stories weren't quite as good as I was expecting.

However I have been recommended several of his other books, and I definitely enjoyed this enough to read more.
