I DEVOURED this book… and it is really 4.5 ⭐️ read for me, I need Goodreads to update their rating system - expeditiously

I’m OVER Tory Vega!!!

Okay, I’m moving on to the 2 novellas next then book 5… but I’m 1000% over Tory at the moment. Unpopular opinion or not, that girl needs to be shaken not stirred into reality (as much as a fictional character can)

I received this book as an ARC and I’m so happy that I did. Thank you very much to Emilia Jae for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I DEVOURED this book, and it wrecked me, but in all the best ways! The FMC, Esmyra, is such a kickass Pirate and Siren. She’s all the things, feisty and fun with insane powers. Our MMC, Draevyn, has fire powers and takes absolutely none of Esmi's crap. This is the epitome of a slow burn book – and the banter is top notch, chef’s kiss.

The world building was so thoughtful and well done. It’s not too much and very easy to understand. I can see where more will occur in the next book. If you are a person who enjoys sirens, pirates, magic, quests, lost islands and a morally gray FMC who kidnaps her love interest – GET THIS BOOK!

The ending was explosive and I’m anxious to find out what happens next. Lots of plot twists and a great set up for what’s to come in the series. All and all, this was a 10/10 for me. I literally want book 2 like NOW! Please, I’m begging you, when the ARC for book 2 comes out, I must get it! My heart will only heal when I know how this ends.

This book contains the following:

WHAT... I mean WHAT!!!!!

I don't know what possessed me to wait this long to read this book, but I'm a mood reader and I wasn't in the mood for a murder mystery until yesterday. I literally read this book in one sitting and then promptly brought it into one of my co-workers and said stop everything now and read this...

This book was beyond well written. It also made me very nostalgic for some of the areas that I frequented in London. This book takes you through so many twists and turns and then you end up rooting for someone that you should be not liking... brilliant. I'm now putting Alex Michaelides as a noted author and will read his entire backlog :)

This book was just what I needed. It was intriguing, entertaining, and relatable. The ending was not what I saw coming, but seriously SO good... now I have more questions... how did we get here, where is it going - I need another book ASAP!

This book follows the FMC, Harper, through her realization that the world that she has created is not necessarily the world she'd like to remain in and she seeks, almost by chance, a way out. Unbeknownst to her, the new beginning that she's looking for, may be worse than the life she decided to leave.

Poppy L. Roberts writing style is great, making me feel like I was there within the pages of her book. This is my first dive into her writing and I hope that she will continue, not just this story, but writing in general - as I can't wait to read and devour more.

First and only issue… why was this a novella? I wanted this book to be so much longer. It was amazing. Definitely check your trigger warnings and if you’re good, dive in. Serenity was the FMC that we all needed. She was unapologetically herself and she was going to get what she wanted, period, point blank.

Serenity is a succubus that gives off Freddy Krueger vibes and I was here for it… and Asher, let’s just say, he’s not as innocent as he thinks he is. I love that this alternated between both of the POVs.

I can’t wait to re-read this during Spooky season… I mean, if I can’t get the full book by then, I guess I’ll have to just count down to October. The storyline and the spice – totally on point. Pick this up as soon as it comes out.

This has me literally feigning for Brimstone… Kingfisher is so awesome and still in my Top 5 Book-boyfriends. Now, I just have to find some patience to wait until Brimstone comes out.
