Finally read this after Hannah gave it to me last summer! Oops.... 🤭  I thought I didn't read the second book and was like damn.... bc I didn't realize this until I was a decent way through the book. Then I looked up the summary of the second book and I definitely did read it. Anyway! It's a fun series. I really enjoyed most of this book. Some of the dialogue was so bad and unnatural? Which is weird because most of it is not

I personally enjoyed the narration. I really like her writing style but I struggled to want to read my year of rest and relaxation and found the audiobook worked much better for me with her style of writing. I was entertained and enjoyed the book!

Tbh this was all over the place but I was eating it up. There were several parts that made me roll my eyes and/or annoyed me, but I basically read the whole book in one day so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.
BORRRINGGGGG... jk I was interested enough but the characters felt like caricatures. They also write out the "southern accents" soooo much and it 1. Makes it hard to read 2. Kind of pisses me off as someone with a southern accent bc it definitely felt like it was being made fun of. There are better ways to show someone has a thick accent. For example, in things we do in the dark, she told us the character had a thick accent, then would write the sentence normally but include ," pronounced (phonetic spelling here) and then they'd continue the dialogue.

I probably wouldn't have hated the book if I'd finished, but I'm in a bit of a reading slump lately and this was a kindle library loan that is almost due and that is just stressful. I also hated the last book I listened to so I need a GOOD book next you know

Wow I did not like that. One of my least favorite books in a while! I usually avoid listening to thrillers as opposed to reading them but this was free on Spotify and not at the library so! I do think listening vs reading made this so bad for me but it also kept reminding me of Verity the way it was written which is by far my least favorite and also worst book I've ever read.

The main character is beyond an idiot. Like she is literally stupid. The dad character made absolutely no sense. The daughter also arguably made no sense but I think that's a bit ok for her character.

If I'm Joann(idk how it's spelled I listened) I'm sorry I'm taking my baby and getting tf out lmao. Like go stay with bestie! The way her husband talked to her and acted towards her THE WHOLE BOOK? Pls? Like even before daughter came in the picture he sucked af.

Not for me. I actually bumped it up to 2.8x speed bc I wanted to DNF so bad but it's for book club and I believe in reading the book club books 🫡

Really great story. Some parts did drag and I feel like the ending was a tad rushed, but nothing that took away from the book/story. Dual POV (and I listened so got two narrators) always elevates a story for me too. Enjoyable! The book is nothing amazing but I would recommend it

Really really beautiful book! I love this and am eagerly awaiting the author's next novel later this year.
I will say... her dad only speaking in poetry is so ridiculous? Like... ONLY speaking in poetry? In what world? Also why is Birdie a cartoon villain lmao. After KNOWING your son raped a teenage girl with 100% certainty and still saying she "ruined your family" bc she put him in jail? I guess there really are boy moms like this but...?
death to boy moms. I wish I was better at reviewing things but 🤷🏼‍♀️ it was really good and I absolutely recommend. Probably one of my favorite books now just bc it was so well written and unlike other things I read. (Not saying there aren't other books out there just that I have not come across them)

This was sweeeet! Nothing crazy... just a sweet story. It was pretty heavy handed but that seemed intentional. The author at one point wrote "that's a bit on the nose is it" and so I was like okay so it's on purpose. I enjoyed this! It was slow and not super interesting really but it was good vibes. While childlike, I enjoyed the descriptors!
